  2. FORMAT MENU HELP                                  
  3. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. Format Menu is used to select the format of a cell or range such as 
  6. Column Width, Alignment in Cell, Colors, Currency, or Cell
  7. Protection.
  8.  
  9. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  10. General                                          
  11. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
  12.  
  13. General is the default format.  Text is shown left justified and
  14. numbers are right justified. Numbers are displayed with the greatest
  15. precision possible in the given cell width.

  18. Currency                                        
  19. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  21. Numeric data formatted with Currency is displayed with the currency
  22. symbols specified by Set Currency under the Options Menu. They are
  23. also displayed with two decimal points (by default).

  26. Fixed

  29. Numeric data formatted with Fixed is displayed with a fixed number
  30. of decimal places based on the Decimal Place Menu Item setting.

  36. Either numeric data or the results of the Date function are 
  37. displayed in one of three formats: 
  38.  
  39. * dd-MM-yy
  40. * dd-MM
  41. * MM-yy

  44. Time                                         
  45. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  47. Either numeric data or the results of the Time function can be 
  48. displayed as HH:MM AM or PM format.

  51. Decimal Places                              
  52. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  54. Numeric data formatted as Fixed will be displayed in the number of
  55. decimals places specified by this Menu Item.  If the number cannot
  56. be displayed because your Column Width is too small the the number
  57. will displayed as #########.

  60. Percent                                    
  61. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  63. Numeric data is multiplied by 100 and then displayed with two
  64. decimal places plus a % character.

  67. Pen Color                                 
  68. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  70. In Standard Mode a Cell or Range of Cells can be displayed in one of
  71. four color choices.  In Enhanced Mode there are 8 color choices.

  74. Commas                                   
  75. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  77. Numeric data can be delimited by commas every 3 digits to the left
  78. of the decimal point with the Commas format.  Remember by turning
  79. Commas on you may cause the number to become too wide to display 
  80. in the cell.  When this happens the number will be shown as #######.
  81. You must then reset the Column Width to accomodate the increase
  82. in digits.

  85. Column Width                            
  86. ---------------------------------------------------------------------

  88. This format determines the number of characters wide for a Column.
  89. The number of characters displayed is always one less than the
  90. Column Width to allow at least one blank character between Columns.

  92. Three options are available:
  93.  
  94. *  Standard - 10 characters
  95. *  Wide - 31 characters
  96. *  Specified - is user determined from 3 to a maximum of 57
  97.    characters.
  98.  
  99. Default option is Standard at 10 characters.

  102. Alignment                       
  103. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  105. Dictates how data is displayed in the column.  Default option is Text
  106. justified left and numbers justified right.  This can be altered
  107. to either left, right, or centered.

  110. Style                                 
  111. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  113. Selects type style for either text or numbers.  Default is normal.
  114. Other options include Bold, Underline, or Italics.  One or more
  115. styles can be selected for a Cell or Range.

  118. Protect

  121. Cells formatted with Protect will not allow their contents to
  122. be modified when Protection is enabled under Options Menu.

  124. Default option is OFF.

  127. Password                            
  128. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  130. Cells formatted with Password hide data with --------- until the
  131. Worksheet user keys in the proper Password under Set Password on
  132. the Options Menu.

  134. For master template builders:
  135.  
  136. 1. Build your worksheet just like normal.
  137.  
  138. 2. Specify the password.
  139.  
  140. 3. Select the ranges you want hidden and protected from view.
  141.  
  142. 4. Select Password/On from the format menu for each range.
  143.  
  144. 5. Save your worksheet.
  145.  
  146. Then when the user uses this template he/she will not be able
  147. to see the password protected data.
  148.  
  149. To modify your data simply specify the password and the password 
  150. protected areas become visible.
  151.  
  152. Note that simply specifying the password does not remove the password 
  153. attribute and the next time the worksheet is loaded the password must 
  154. again be specified to see the data.

  156. Once the password is keyed in, the Cells are still protected.  To 
  157. change any data Cell Protection must be disabled on the Commands
  158. Menu.

  161. Palette                            
  162. --------------------------------------------------------------------

  164. A Requester is displayed with red, green and blue slider gadgets
  165. to modify each of the 4 or 8 colors in a manner similar to that
  166. used in Preferences.  These colors are saved with the Worksheet
  167. file and are recalled on loading.  All of the Worksheets
  168. open at one time will appear in the colors of the last Worksheet
  169. opened.
